BPA Strongly Condemns Attacks on Public ServantsIn response to the serious assault on a parking attendant which took place in Wandsworth this week, the British Parking Association condemned this, and other forms of abuse regularly meted out on parking attendants and public servants working in the UK.
Keith Banbury, Chief Executive of the British Parking Association:

"This most recent assault was a horrible attack. It resulted in very serious injuries leaving the Parking Attendant in a critical condition. There is no excuse for verbally or physically attacking a public servant.

"Threat and abuse, both verbal and physical, is a persistent problem in the parking industry. In London alone, Parking Attendants (PAs) suffer on average three physical attacks per day.

"Parking attendants are public servants that support society and help Councils to keep the streets clear for the benefit of all. If a driver feels that they have been treated unfairly, there is an independent appeals process - violence is not the answer.

"The BPA is pressing Government to introduce a new criminal charge that would make it a specific offence to attack a public servant, including a parking attendant. We believe this new charge is justified, as levels of attacks against public servants continue to increase, both in volume and severity."
