Dayton International Airport opens new parking garage todayThe Dayton International Airport has finally opened its long-anticipated parking garage.
The new $35 million structure is open for business today and is just steps away from the terminal's doors.  The parking garage is the first one the airport has ever had.

Airport officials say that passengers asked for the garage in customer surveys and that the new structure will help Dayton International compete with the three other major airports within a 90 minute drive from the Gem City for travelers (Cincinnati, Columbus, and Indianapolis).

Dayton's average domestic fare of $314.12 for the first three months of this year was cheaper than Greater Cincinnati's $404.29, but more expensive than those of Columbus ($299.05) or Indianapolis ($298.86), the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported Wednesday.

The parking structure is just the first of many major projects to be completed as a part of $156 million in new construction that has gotten underway in recent years.

By the end of 2010, airport officials expect: the Federal Aviation Administration to put its new air traffic control tower into operation; completion of a renovation of the terminal's ticketing lobby, including relocating baggage screening machines and adding two lanes to the security checkpoint; and completed installation of new video security equipment in the terminal.
