On a previous blog post from last fall, we discussed the upcoming feature of Google Maps that would provide information about the parking situation at different destinations. The app would inform of parking options near your destination as well as how easy or difficult it is to find parking.
Slowly but surely, this option has been popping up for Android beta users. Once you set your destination and receive a route by Google Maps, a P icon will be shown next to the route duration telling you if parking is limited, medium or easy. This is information that users can take into account beforehand allowing drivers to make informed decisions. It might also mean that there will be less cars looking for parking on the road alleviating traffic and reducing CO2 emissions.
It is important to note that as of now, this information is not in real-time but rather general. Google Maps is using general parking information and event data to determine the parking situation for different destinations.
