Job Summary

This position will support the Corporate Controller in preparing financial statements and managing the financial controls, reporting and analysis requirements of a mid-sized manufacturing and software company. In addition, the Assistant Controller will manage all Accounting & Finance activities, and several administrative functions, of a recently acquired business operating unit. This position will also lead the ASC 606 Revenue Recognition Initiative.



  • Work closely with the Corporate Controller to perform monthly close responsibilities, including account reconciliations and preparation of the monthly financial reporting package
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end analysis of financial results and performance
  • Take initiative to identify, develop recommendations and assist in implementation of process improvements; including implementation of key performance metrics
  • Establish and maintain internal controls
  • Serve as technical accounting expert for the team, researching accounting issues for compliance with GAAP
  • Coordination and participation of the annual audit
  • Oversight on tax related matters

Operating Unit

  • Provide financial leadership for the business unit and be a member of the business unit management team
  • Prepare financial analysis and work with local and corporate management to develop strategy and operating initiatives
  • Coordinate the annual budget and periodic re-projections, coordinating with corporate headquarters
  • Provide analysis and reports on financial performance, including sales, margins, expenses and other key performance measures
  • Coordinate with the corporate finance functions to ensure that timely and accurate reports and analysis are provided, appropriate journal entries are prepared and recorded, and assist with audit requests
  • Cash management/treasury responsibilities

Revenue Recognition

  • The controller also completes special projects as assigned
  • Scoping and implementation of the ASC 606 initiative, including scoping, business requirements document and implementation activities
  • Technical expert on ASC 606

Key Competencies

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Problem solving ability and organized
  • Ability to work independently, working proactively and taking initiative to achieve desired results. Candidate should be able to function without daily supervision or guidance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Candidate should have prior experience as Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
  • Experience with project based percent-of-completion and SAAS accounting is desired.
  • Revenue recognition experience. Exposure to ASC 606 and familiarity with accounting standards
  • Candidate should have strong working experience with Quick Books and ability to learn other accounting and operating systems.
  • Capable of developing and communicating vision & changes in direction.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, resource constrained environment.

Educationand Experience

  • 5+ years of prior accounting/accounting management experience in a manufacturing or services provider environment
  • Technical accounting and ability to research and interpret new accounting standards
  • Experience transitioning and integrating newly acquired companies is a strong plus
  • Project based accounting experience is a strong plus
  • Experience with tax matters is a strong plus
  • Inventory experience is a strong plus
  • Minimum Education: BS/BA Accounting. MBA is preferred
  • CPA preferred.


  • The position will either be located at the Roseville, MN Corporate offices
  • Candidates should not expect an extensive travel schedule, but should be willing to travel periodically as the job requires, including travel to national branch locations
