Instructional Designer (Charlotte, US)


About the Role:

As an Instructional Designer at Passport, you will be at the center of people development in an incredibly fast-paced environment. You’ll be a culture carrier, a learning innovator, and an influencer into the overall Passporter experience. In other words, your ideas and contributions matter in the success of Passport and its People Operations team. You’ll wear multiple hats in this unique opportunity to both design and build as you work with Passport’s Director of L&D, the People Operations team, and business leaders across the company to deliver critical programs and learning solutions.

You will use adult instructional design principles to produce learning solutions and enablement materials in a wide variety of formats, including, but not limited to:

  • Blended learning experiences including online/web based self-study and virtual instructor-led course materials
  • Enablement tools: job aides, podcasts, videos, interactive PDFs – and more!


  • Design and build fun and engaging learning solutions for the greatest knowledge retention (online for LMS, in-person, virtual delivery)
  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of learning programs
  • Improve and iterate the mobilization experience
  • Conduct train-the-trainer sessions for updated and new VILT content
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate learning sessions (in-person and virtually)
  • Define and develop scope, objectives, storyboard/outline and other design documents
  • Perform in-depth needs analysis to uncover learner and organizational needs, identify performance gaps and changes in the work process
  • Manage and populate content within the learning management system(s)
  • Keep abreast of training innovations, development, and learning trends

Job Requirements:

  • Must thrive in an ever-changing, project- and process-driven environment
  • Must have strong, efficient and creative writing skills to support storyboard, script and process development documentation
  • Earn stakeholder trust through problem solving, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to articulate complex concepts in simple terms
  • Excellent team player with strong leadership and influencing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent years experience) required, with preferred focus in instructional design, adult education, organizational development, industrial psychology, or related disciplines
  • 5+ years’ experience in instructional design or training development environment is required
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent project management skills
  • Creative self-starter able to work well in a team or independently
  • Experience in conducting needs analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage instructional design projects
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience with multimedia authoring tools (Articulate 360, Camtasia, Vyond, Adobe Creative Suite, and other eLearning tools) preferred
  • Experience working with a variety of Learning Management Systems
  • Prefer experiences within the SaaS and IT industries
