Job Title: Field Service Technician / Installation Technician
Location: Stony Brook, NY (Long Island)
Coverage area: NY/NJ (company car provided)
SKIDATA, a leading provider of access solutions for parking facilities and resorts around the world is currently seeking a driven “hands-on” Field Service Technician to perform Level 1 maintenance, troubleshooting, installation and configuration of the systems for our customers in and around the greater New York area, specifically Long Island. You must be able to show initiative, work independently and explain/understand product offerings to our customers. Must be willing to learn and keep up with technology.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform installation work as directed.
Perform Level 1/2 maintenance and board level service of the systems hardware, components, software and networks
Troubleshooting failed equipment and components
Cleaning and/or minor adjustments of malfunctioning or out of spec equipment
Adjusting software settings
Working with 2nd Level Skidata Support Engineers to accurately document software issues; sending zipped and encrypted trace/trace back/database dumps via email
Communicating clearly and accurately with customers, on-site Representatives, Internal Developers and management
Mediating and resolving issues impacting the relationships of the company with its clientele by the application of good business judgment, fairness and analysis of the critical factors causing the issues
Providing timely feedback to senior management regarding performance
Adhering to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensuring that they are communicated and implemented within the team
Demonstrating ability to interact and cooperate with all company employees
Willingness to learn as a Field Service technician maintaining complex systems
Knowledge of Windows-based programs
Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills
Field experience or willingness to learn with startup and commissioning installations; software troubleshooting and configuration skills
Must be able to work flexible hours when needed.
Skills and Knowledge
College degree or equivalent
Electronics / electrical experience
Low voltage / CAT5/6 and fiber experience
VOIP or TCP/IP network environments experience (desired)
Windows / PC / Networking experience (desired)
Military experience a plus
Education and Experience
Bachelors or Associates degree preferred. High school degree with relevant experience or equivalent experience (military)
2+ years’ experience in a similar role
