Job Description

SKIDATA, a leading provider of access solutions for parking facilities and resorts around the world is currently seeking a driven “hands-on” Technical Services Manager. This is a full-time position focused in the day to day management and oversight of a team of Service Engineers in Fridley, MN. The Technical Services Manager leads the local team and delivers the service performance as agreed on the service contracts and is responsible for the service results and KPI’s in the service region. You must be able to show initiative, work independently and explain/understand product offerings to our customers. Must be willing to learn and keep up with technology.

Attention to detail, being customer-centric, striving for growth and increased profitability is critical for success in this position. Experience in system design and implementation will be beneficial for this position.

This position requires leadership and a collaborative approach to the business and a “take ownership” mentality is necessary.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • The primary function is to oversee the service team, maintain and improve operational excellence, assist in providing technical and engineering assistance in the areas of troubleshooting, repair, testing, start-up, maintenance and training.
  • Oversee service management system and protocols. Work in collaboration with management staff. (Regional Manager, Operations, Installation Manager).
  • Develop and maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Provide direction to employees and continually strive to assist in helping the team to become experts on the products we sell and service and willing to assist with employee development.
  • Support the efforts of the technicians and engineers by sourcing parts, organizing materials, reviewing data and assistance and direction where needed
  • Reviewing and managing expenses, P&L
  • Establish and monitor of maintenance contracts and preventative maintenance programs
  • Deploy and use Project management skills and tools to effectively manage resources and meet expectations of our customers
  • Communicating clearly and accurately with customers, on-site Representatives, Internal Developers and management
  • Mediating and resolving issues impacting the relationships of the company with its clientele by the application of good business judgment, fairness and analysis of the critical factors causing the issues
  • Develop a knowledge of our products and services
  • Adhering to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensuring that they are communicated and implemented within the team
  • A drive to learn product knowledge by using manuals, training seminars, and media
  • Demonstrating ability to interact and cooperate with all company employees
  • Providing timely feedback to senior management regarding performance

Competencies

  • Field service engineering and technical assistance experience (minimum 5 years) in areas of installation, testing, startup, maintenance, repair, training and modification of RFID, AVI, Fare Collection or Parking Access Control or Intelligent HVAC systems.
  • The ability to easily read and understand engineering and installation documentation
  • Experience working with databases, software applications, report writing tools & Microsoft products
  • Experience or willingness to learn as a Field Service technician maintaining complex systems
  • Demonstrate a proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Understanding of installation and support of computer networks and TCP/IP devices would be beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based programs
  • Very strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with Voltmeters, Network Test equipment & other electronic test equipment including a working knowledge of PC architecture & networks
  • Field experience or willingness to learn with startup and commissioning installations; software troubleshooting and configuration skills
  • Must be able to work flexible hours when needed.
  • Well organized and keep detailed records of field service activities

Required

  • Experience managing a team of technicians (5+) and in a service role.
  • Experience with server (HP / Dell) and desktop PC hardware, such as CPU, memory, and disk.
  • Windows operating system experience and familiarity with technology such as domains, active directory, etc.
  • The most important characteristic… ability to solve problem by researching internet forums, manuals, and other resources. Willingness to learn through self-education and training.
  • Bachelors or Associate's college degree or Technical degree/certification or Military experience
  • Willingness to travel and work with a global team of professionals
  • Electronics experience…military communications experience is a plus
