Business Development Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join WPS’s UK Sales team.

What you will do

Ideally living in the South / South East of England, you will focus on regional growth of new business opportunities whilst maintaining relationships with existing key clients. You will take the lead in handling a wide range of opportunities, some of which will be large and multifaceted. You will be responsible for business development from initial lead identification and building relationships to the submission of high-quality bids and, finally, supporting the customer and operational team during implementation.

The role calls for an outstanding ability to initiate, develop and maintain relationships at all levels and to be recognised as a trusted technical solution advisor to potential new clients. You will be able to effectively articulate your passion for our award-winning products and services both verbally and in writing (for example, during tender submissions). You will have the empathy and technical ability to listen to and fully comprehend complex customer needs and to use a partnering style to professionally advise them on the best solutions to achieve optimal benefit.

You will have a strong desire to further develop your existing experience, abilities and skillset as part of a winning team.

As part of the role, you will build effective relationships with colleagues and work hand in hand with them to ensure that projects are well conceived, fully aligned to requirements, accurately defined and efficiently implemented.

Reporting to the Managing Director of WPS in the UK, you will be responsible for a defined geographical region. As part of the role, you will have both strategic and tactical input into sales & marketing plans, be an active member of the UK management team and help to drive the overall direction and performance of the UK business.

This is primarily a field-based role involving extensive UK travel.


  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to disseminate complicated information in a clear, concise and informative way
  • Self-driven, with a measured persistence based on a hunger to succeed and grow;
  • Strong networker;
  • An understanding of financial drivers (both at project and business level) within the context of developing balanced growth;
  • Excellent organisational / self-management skills.

What you'll bring to the table

You will already have experience in technical sales but want to further develop your career with an industry leading technology provider.

The following are some of the key skills, attributes and experience required:

  • Qualified (ideally to degree level) in a relevant technical discipline or a high level of relevant technical experience;
  • Previous experience of new business development in a non-commodity technology / solution based industry;
  • Credible trusted adviser in delivering complex technical solutions;
  • Confident in engaging and influencing customers at all levels;
  • High quality bid / tender writing capability;
  • Full driving license;
  • Right to work in the UK.
