Cale Group is one of the first parking terminal suppliers in the world to have been certified according to PCI DSS level 1

Cale Access and Cale Systems have for two years worked on being certified according to PCI DSS, level 1, which is the highest level of certification within the card security standard PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). On 14 August 2008, the certification was approved and Cale is thereby the first supplier of systems for street parking ever to have managed to be certified according to PCI DSS, level 1.

VISA, the largest actor within PCI, decides if Cale as a company complies with the standard or not. With this certification, VISA has agreed that Cale meets the standard, set together by VISA and the four other card companies within PCI SSC.

What is PCI DSS?

PCI DSS is a standard, created by VISA, MasterCard, Discover Card, American Express and JCB. These companies together build the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC). They work together towards meeting the increased demand from the market for a common card security standard. VISA has its own security standard, called Card Information Security Program, CISP, which is so complex that PCI DSS in its current form is almost identical with CISP.



Why you should be certified?

During the two years Cale has worked on their certification, the demand from the acquirers has increased very much. PCI DSS has for a long time been a request towards the card companies in North America, while the pressure on the market has been relatively haphazard until 2008, when the North American and European acquirers seriously started pressuring the market to become certified according to PCI DSS. For many companies this sudden change from "could you please" to "you need to" came as very unexpected and as a consequence, they are far behind in their certification process.

The change on the North American market has been very noticeable. Previously, customers and potential customers asked what PCI was and if it was something they needed to take into account, but now the market is fully aware of what PCI DSS is and what is required, and the demand on Cale to be PCI DSS certified is becoming more and more widespread.
