CPA Increases Parkade Parking Convenience
Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) customers can now find out how many parking stalls are available in CPA parkades by checking the company's website. Real-time counts are available for all seven parkades.
Now customers have access to parkade stall counts before they park, said Acting General Manager Troy McLeod. This service is intended to help people plan their trips downtown. It allows them to check the parking availability before they start their trip and make plans based on that information.
This new service also allows people to receive automatic updates, or feeds, about stalls counts on their computer or mobile device without having to go back to the website and manually check for the information.
Users can subscribe to the CPA feeds through a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) reader, such as Google Reader, that allows the information to be properly displayed on a computer or hand-held device. Users must first sign up for an RSS reader and then subscribe to a feed. Subscribing allows them to receive the stall counts for the individual parkades.
This service is the first step in providing real-time parking information to CPA customers. In conjunction with a City agency, the CPA is currently developing an iPhone application. The CPA also plans to provide historical parking data for on-street stalls on its website. Both projects are scheduled to be completed this fall.
