Community Service Parking Garage Recognized Nationally by the Green Parking Council as a Demonstrator Site

The Community Service Building Corporation has again been recognized nationally for its energy efficiency. The Community Service Building was recognized in 2003 by the US Environmental Protection Agency as an Energy Star Building, placing it among 15% of the most energy efficient buildings in the country in its peer group.
Today, the Community Service Parking Garage, located at 11th and Orange Streets in Wilmington, Delaware, is recognized as one of twenty-five parking facilities on the continent as a Demonstrator Site by the Green Parking Council. Demonstrator Sites are leaders in committing to environmentally-responsible technologies and practices in parking facilities.
The Parking Garage, under management by Standard Parking, is recognized for its use of timers and light sensors to turn off unnecessary lighting and the conversion of 175 parking area light fixtures to energy efficient LED lights. These improvements are expected to cut annual electric usage in the garage in half. Other energy-saving measures are planned.
The Community Service Building, in operation since 1997, is the largest multi-tenant nonprofit center of its kind in the country. It provides stable, below-market rent and many free amenities, including free parking, to its 78 nonprofit tenants. According to Jerry Bilton, Executive Director, The Community Service Building Corporation is intentional with its focus on and leadership in energy management for several reasons. First, it is the socially responsible thing to do. Second, reducing energy costs offsets other rising operating costs, keeps rents to a minimum and provides funds for further building improvements. Clearly, it is a winning business model.
In 2007, the Community Service Building was recognized as a Superstar in Business by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.
