Muni-Meter Installations Throughout the City

DOT is in the process of replacing all remaining single-space meters throughout the city with muni-meters. Muni-meters have several advantages over single-space parking meters, include the convenience of a pay-and-display system, the reduction of unnecessary sidewalk encumbrances, and additional capacity for parked cars in the same curb space.

DOT has completed replacing all single space parking meters in Manhattan and began installing muni-meters in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island this summer. The installation work will be complete by the end of June, 2012.

Park Smart Expanding in Park Slope

Beginning in August, 2011, DOT will carry out a round of changes to parking meters in Park Slope, Brooklyn. DOT will expand and make permanent the successful PARK Smart peak rate pricing pilot. These changes are based on the recommendations of Community Board 6 and on consultations with resident and merchant associations in the neighborhood.

Currently, the Park Smart program is in effect on Fifth Avenue between Douglass Street/St. John's Place and 4th Street, and on Seventh Avenue between Lincoln Place and 6th Street.

The Park Smart program will expand to the following locations:

    Fifth Avenue between Dean Street and Douglass Street/St. John's Place
    Fifth Avenue between 4th and 15th Streets
    Seventh Avenue between 6th and 15th Streets
    9th Street between Fourth and Sixth Avenues

During the peak period, the rate will be 50 for fifteen minutes at all locations where the PARK Smart program is in effect. The rate will be 25 for 15 minutes during all other times when meters are in effect. The peak period will be expanded to 127 pm, Mondays through Saturdays.
