NSL Learning and Development Team Win Prestigious Training Journal Award

The NSL Learning and Development team were top of the class at last nights prestigious Training Journal Awards.
The team won the Peer Review for Innovation Award, after being shortlisted with 23 other companies, including Orange and The Natural History Museum.

The team, led by Barry Hopley, Head of Learning and Development, constructed the 'ICAN Grow People' Development Programme alongside Ican Development Ltd.
he innovative training scheme, which has been tailor made to fit NSL, focuses on managing and developing employees. The two day training scheme is a development programme to support managers in key areas of people responsibility, and provides a fresh way of thinking about management and leadership.

The scheme has received great feedback from NSL employees and has resulted in benefits across the business. After developing the training scheme with Jason Stevens, Managing Director of Ican Development Ltd, it was introduced to NSL supervisors in September 2009, and has continued to be a success.

After being shortlisted for the award, the Learning and Development team gave a presentation about the 'ICAN Grow People'

programme, which was critiqued by peers within the training industry. The presentations were all recorded and distributed online to be further assessed by experts within training.

Barry and Jason attended the award ceremony last night, which took place at The Commonwealth Club in London alongside nearly 300 employees from other training organisations. Three companies were given a special mention for their innovative training programmes, but NSL beat off the competition to scoop the award.

Barry said 'To be nominated for any training award is fantastic, but to be recognised by peers and competitors within the Learning and Development industry as a worthy winner is the greatest honour.

NSL's industry-leading L&D department is  a regualr award winner, scooping the training award at the British Parking Awards in 2007, and being commended in the same category the following year.

During 2009 the NSL L&D team issued over 1800 nationally recognised qualifications to its colleagues - including BTEC, City & Guilds and Security Industry Authority qualifications.
