Solar energy plan in San Diego
The City of San Diego along with San Diego Gas & Electric have launched a new solar energy structure which is expected to generate more energy that would support around 107 homes with power every year. April Heinze, the County of San Diego of General Services director said County Operations Center Parking Structure includes 24 panels on top of a 7 storied complex located at 5550 Overland Avenue which provides a double benefit of producing 627,000 kw of power and more parking shade.
The county will have the system for ten years and get $60,000 and more as lease payments. Ron Roberts, the county Supervisor said it is now more than a normal parking garage than can be easily noticed. This is just a quick look of the future and the same thing must be looking by all the parking garages. The parking complex is one among many green infrastructural plans that has been made for the New Year.
April Heinze said the system is expected to reduce greenhouse by 376 tons per year which is similar to avoiding the drive of around million miles per year or planting more than 11,000 trees. The nine county departments including San Diego County Sheriffs Department, Public Works, Park and Recreation will utilize the place. SDG&E holds and manages the system and also provides electricity generated directly to the grid said April Heinze.
Ron Roberts also said City of San Diego will make way to a 45 kw solar energy system in this spring and a 30 kw system during the summer and it is the largest project till date at East Mesa Detention Facility. He added that they will utilize much less energy and have a very cleaner air which they expect for themselves and for the youngsters who are growing in San Diego.
