Traffic.com Awards TransCore Installation & Maintenance Contracts to Expand Its Proprietary Traffic Sensor Data Network

TransCore today announced that Traffic.com has awarded TransCore multiple contracts for the installation of additional roadside traffic sensors expanding Traffic.coms services in nine cities across the country: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Jose, and Raleigh.
Traffic.com selected TransCore for these cities because of its experience deploying and maintaining ITS infrastructure, said John Collins, Traffic.coms vice president for ITS and telematics. Their presence in more than 20 states with a national footprint of 60 field offices across the U.S. provides us with necessary local expertise and service as Traffic.coms U.S. commuter services and coverage continues to expand.

The Traffic.com digital sensor network, which TransCore will build out in these nine markets, continuously collects accurate, real-time traffic data and transmits it wirelessly to Traffic.coms proprietary traffic information management system. This data is combined with probe data and incident and event-related updates. The resulting comprehensive traffic content is immediately distributed across broadcast, Web and wireless platforms. This traffic information includes incident and accident reports, vehicle speeds, congestion levels, and travel and delay times.

The demand for real-time traveler information services is becoming as pervasive as the congestion that plagues our urban areas. Such services provide essential data for motorists to adapt their travel routes or timing of trips and, ultimately, relieve demand on our stressed highway systems, explained Mike Holling, TransCores operating officer for intelligent transportation systems.

Traffic.com assists drivers avoid traffic across the United States by delivering free, real-time, traffic services online at www.traffic.com, on-demand with a toll free traffic hotline 1-866-MY-TRAFC, and on-the-go with an SMS service by texting a city code to TRAFC and a WAP site at mobi.traffic.com designed for access by Web-enabled cell phone and mobile device.
