A PARKING MACHINE THAT FLOATS
Its the only floating parking machine in the country!
A Metric car-parking machine is being used for the mooring of yachts in a busy harbour. The Cardiff Harbour Authority has installed a Metric solar powered Accent machine on a floating pontoon for the mooring of yachts on short stays in the harbour.
"To us the Metric machine is an honesty box", said harbour master Rob Freemantle. "It wouldn’t be cost-effective to have a member of staff collecting money from yachts only staying an hour or so in the harbour.
"We approached Metric about installing a ‘parking’ machine and set up one of their solar panel versions on a floating pontoon to issue tickets. "The machine has a keypad which prints a berth number on the ticket which is then presented when the yacht leaves the harbour. "The idea is proving to be a great success", Mr. Freemantle added. And it’s only L1 an hour to moor a yacht in Cardiff harbour.
