Alpha Energy Celebrates the Commissioning of the 153kW Turnkey Installation in Phoenix
A national leader in turnkey photovoltaic systems, and member of The Alpha Group, Alpha Energy celebrated the commissioning of a 153kW solar power installation for Cox Communications at its Phoenix, Ariz. Headquarters.
It is exciting to participate in the growth of the renewable energy power grid, said Drew Zogby, President and COO of Alpha Technologies. This new solar power installation is a great example of renewable energy becoming central to our everyday lives. The system is combined with a new series of parking structures that have the added benefit of providing parking protection from the elements. These structures also make the solar modules visible from the street to help demonstrate Cox Communications commitment to renewable energy.
The 153kW grid-tied solar power system includes 900 170W photovoltaic panels spread across six new parking structures protecting 75 parking spaces for Cox employees. The system will generate 240,000 kilowatt hours per year, offsetting more than 392,081lbs of CO2. The CO2 offset is equivalent to preventing the emissions from 33 cars or the energy use of 16 homes.
Alpha has worked with Cox for more than 30 years powering their broadband cable network across the country, Zogby said. And when this opportunity presented itself with our renewable energy division, our existing relationship helped us exceed their expectations. We are confident this financially and environmentally sound turnkey installation will raise social awareness and motivate other companies to follow in Coxs footsteps.
There is a very sound return on investment on this," said Steve Rizley, general manager and senior vice president of Cox Arizona. We're not just using solar electricity because it is appropriate, but also because it makes sense. The installation is part of a broader effort to cut the company's energy demand and likely is the first of many similar projects for Cox.
