The Arizona Department of Transportation recently recognized the Mohave County Airport Authoritys Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport as the 2011 Airport of the Year, according to the agencys website.
The airport is located in Bullhead City along the Colorado River and was selected by ADOTs Aeronautics Group within the Multimodal Planning Division. The selection criteria are based on accomplishments in the areas of community relations, airport management, airport maintenance activities, and innovative activities and programs implemented at the airport.

According to a press release, Laughlin/Bullhead airport expanded by 5,100 square feet to further accommodate passenger processing and completed extensive runway rehabilitation and safety improvements, including asphalt replacement, taxiway extensions, new airfield lighting and improved parking areas. The 83 airports vary in size and serve different functions in meeting Arizonas aviation and economic needs. The total annual economic activity associated with Arizonas airports is $38.5 billion.

Community-outreach activities surrounding the airport include airport management and staffs efforts to inform the community through organized speaking engagements. The facility also is made available for training and contingency purposes related to government agencies, and local Boy Scout troops and aviation hobbyists.

We are very pleased to recognize the Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport for their exceptional service and commitment to Arizonas systems on airports, said ADOT director John Halikowski in a prepared statement.
