Cardiff's parking machines top two million transactions

Statistics revealed today show that a significant two million transactions have been carried out over the last 18 months through Cardiffs 137 solar powered pay and display parking machines. More than a quarter of a million of these transactions have been by debit and credit card an average of 464 a day.
The Metric Aura parking machines have been monitored and audited via Metrics powerful WEBASLAN back office system.

The large number of transactions successfully performed is despite a recent glitch that Cardiff has experienced with the credit/debit card terminals.

Unfortunately, for the public in Cardiff who use the credit/debit card option in the machines, the card terminal supplier Thales UK Ltd suffered environmental problems affecting the hardware. This has been fully rectified and credit card terminals replaced.

Card payment services provider CreditCall also overcame technical difficulties, caused by one the network providers which carries transactions from the machines, and the reliability of card payments from the Auras returned to normal.

Alan Grimley, Metrics Sales Executive for Wales, said Cardiff City Council are happy with the performance of the Aura which, apart from the glitch with chip and pin service which was out of their control, has proved a reliable machine.
By the number of transactions that have been carried out, the Aura can be seen to be performing very well 18 months down the line, he added.

Said a spokesperson for Cardiff Council: We are pleased with the way the Aura machines have performed since their installation, and any issue with the chip and pin technology rests with the third party supplier.

The replacement units appear to be performing better than their predecessors, and will continue to be monitored over the warranty period.
