Authorities in Kuala Lumpur are making compulsory for all shopping malls and commercial buildings to set aside seven per cent of carpark space for women only. Women driving alone or with young children unaccompanied by men can opt to park in sections of carparks that are specially allocated to women.
The women-only carpark is an initiative undertaken by the Kuala Lumpur city hall to further enhance safety and security of women drivers in parking lots.
KLCC Suria, the leading shopping mall located at the Petronas Twin Towers, has launched women-only parking lots, being the first in South East Asia.Watch the video on the Channel News Asia website.
Located near main entrances, the women's sections is painted and indicated in pink, including displays signs that shows available spaces for the women parking lots.

The opening ceremony for the Circontrol Parking Guidance System and the Women Car Park area was hosted by a large representation of local authorities, including the Honorable Mr. Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin (Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister in Malaysia), Mr. Tuan Haji Hashim Bin Wahir (Chief Executive Employees at KLCC Property Holdings Berhad), HE Maria Bassols (Spanish Embassor in Malaysia), Mr. Luis Maria Lopez (Commercial counselor at the Spanish Embassy in Malaysia) and Mr. Moises Barea (Export Manager at Circontrol) and managers from other divisions involved in the project.
KLCC management has installed the CIRPARK solution, state-of-the art parking guidance system which is actually managing and reporting statistics and information for more than 5150 parking lots, 200 internal signs, 3 main city guide signs and 6 gate signs through a large fiber optic network that manages to communicate to a control room that is hosting the operation in different layers for the correct operation of KLCC Suria car park.
