Council buys new, throws out the old and makes savingsGS

With the introduction of brand new pay and display parking machines and a major upgrade of older ones, West Lancashire District Council has been able to reduce the number off-street in Ormskirk by two.
WestLancashireAura.jpgSeventeen new Metric Auras have recently gone live in car parks in Ormskirk town centre (photo) and three upgraded Metric Accents became operational in the Council Offices, Derby Street, at the same time.

West Lancashire District Council had a total of 22 pay and display parking machines, all Metric, but have been able to dispense with two Auto-Slots which are over 15 years old and reached their life expectancy.

At the same time, the council is linking its 20 Metric Auras and Accents with their unique ASLAN Back Office system. ASLAN, which has Alert and Stats software, enables machines to be networked.

Said the Councils Parking Officer Ken Knowles: The ASLAN Back Office gives us the means to look at machines remotely and take any necessary action remotely.

He said the Council had chosen the Metric Aura after looking at a number of suppliers. It was partly cost, but our decision was based on the facilities and reliability of the Aura.

Also by making such a decision we have been able to save money at this time, he added.
