Cubic Expands Card Services Group

Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc. a subsidiary of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation, announced a major expansion of its Card Services Group.
Cubic did this to pursue new commercial opportunities and provide administrative and management services that will help transport agencies leverage their smart card-based fare collection systems by linking them with other transportation-related and third-party products and services including parking, tolls, taxis, event ticketing, concessions, retail and security access control.

Cubic’s Card Services is building on the company’s regional systems experience and proven technology for being able to integrate new products, commercial services and distribution channel partners into their smart card systems. The company has fielded or is currently implementing many of the largest regional smart card projects in the world today, including London, Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia, Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Diego and South East Queensland, Australia.

Worldwide, contactless smart card technology has emerged as the preferred way to pay fares as it delivers the greatest convenience, ease of use and security for transport patrons. It also has the most flexibility for linking multiple transport operators and modes in a unified regional system.

“Cubic has invested millions in developing open architecture smart card components, peripherals, software and network solutions,” said David deKozan, vice president, Strategic Planning for Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc. “The Card Services group will be able to capitalize on these elements and deliver integrated solutions to additional vertical markets now in demand. By partnering with transit operators and leveraging the regional systems they establish, these new applications can be introduced without any one operator having to absorb the full burden of a new card launch.”

“Many of our customers are facing new management and administrative challenges as regional card programs introduce the need for sophisticated card distribution, transaction processing, financial settlement and customer service operations,” said Marty Turock, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc. “Cubic’s Card Services and Strategic Planning areas will work together to define and bring to market the technical and operational solutions needed by our existing customers and those that will emerge from new vertical market partnerships.”
