Denver parking structure wins Award of Excellence

Carl Walker, Inc. is proud to announce that the James Merrick State Parking Facility in Denver, Colorado was selected to receive the 2007 Award of Excellence for a Public Parking Structure by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Rocky Mountain Chapter.

Dedicated on July 11, 2006, the 199,400 square-foot garage provides 660 parking spaces and includes three elevators. It is designed entirely in precast concrete and incorporates architectural precast concrete spandrels that are finished to match granite and marble. The parking structure occupies a prominent corner adjacent to the Capitol in the Civic Center District, a cultural and governmental complex serving both the city and the state. Because of this high-profile location, the design needed to complement the surrounding historical buildings, which include the Capitol, Capitol Building Annex, State Supreme Court Building, Civic Center Park and State Historical Society.

The project team included: PCL Construction (Contractor), Carl Walker, Inc. (Prime Parking Consultant), Shears Adkins Architects (Design Architect), Sickbert & Associates(Architect of Record), CSE (Precaster Specialty Engineer)and Stresscon (Prestressed Concrete.)
