Digital Payment Wins Contract from Affiliated Computer Services for City of Houston Parking Meters

Largest Multi-space Parking Meter Contract Awarded in 2006

Vancouver, BC Digital Payment Technologies Corp., a leading supplier of revenue-management solutions for the global parking industry, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a three-year contract by Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (ACS) to supply 750 LUKE Payment Stations for deployment throughout the City of Houston, TX, starting in September 2006. There is an option to supply up to another 750 LUKE Payment Stations before the end of the contract to make up a city-wide total of 1,500 stations.
Digital Payment is extremely excited about the opportunity to work with ACS supporting the City of Houston on a project of this scale, said Digital Payment CEO Andrew Scott. The LUKE payment stations will provide Houston with a technology base that will assist it in meeting its objectives for both the short- and long-term, while providing DPT with a showcase installation for its LUKE on-street product.

The awarding of this contract caps a two-year evaluation period by the City of Houston to investigate general system integrators, on-street payment station manufacturers, and WiFi network suppliers for its on-street parking system. ACS was awarded the general system-management contract by Houston based on its ability to deliver the best overall integrated solution. In addition to supplying the LUKE payment stations, ACS has been contracted to install the meters, build a municipal WiFi network throughout Houstons central business district, and install all of the pavement markings and signage. Among other firsts, this is the largest municipal WiFi project awarded in US history.

This project also represents the first municipal parking-meter system in the U.S. that does not rely on a cellular network, but instead communicates exclusively using a dedicated 802.11g WiFi network. The City of Houston will evaluate the performance of this WiFi system to determine if it can be expanded to assist public safety and public service employees to improve the accuracy and timeliness of their duties.

Part of Houstons evaluation of multi-space parking meters involved a five-week trial conducted in various parts of the downtown area, commented Liliana Rambo, assistant director of the City of Houstons parking division. At the conclusion of the trial, the LUKE payment station was rated the highest by both city officials and the public. This feedback and our in-depth technical review makes us feel confident that LUKE will serve everyones needs both now and the future, while also delivering a product designed to fit into and enhance the look of our streetscapes.

In Houston, Digital Payments LUKE solar-powered on-street payment stations will accept credit cards, paper currency and coins, plus payment by cell phone. The payment stations will also offer on-screen payment instructions in multiple languages, as well as remote back-end system management through Digital Payments Internet-based Enterprise Management System (EMS). EMS will enable City of Houston officials to remotely update all payment stations, in real time, with new rate and configuration information. It will also allow them to access management reports using any computer that has Internet access. The LUKE payment stations will also be powder coated to match the citys selected colors.
