Downtown Winsted parking could be revamped

A report from the towns Economic Development Commission scheduled for Monday night could kickstart a makeover for downtown parking in Winsted.
A preliminary report of a project between the commission and Yale University suggests the town should initiate stricter parking enforcement measures, clearly mark public parking areas and create additional lots for both commercial and residential parking in the Main Street area.

Initial findings find the towns current parking to be sufficient, but recommends changes to assist with downtown revitalization efforts.

The reports also suggests the town reform its Parking Committee to oversee parking in the downtown area, and suggests additional lots for municipal parking may be necessary as the town hopes to expand its main commercial district.

Many of the proposed changes will require the cooperation of the Town Manager and the Department of Public Works to more clearly delineate certain parking areas, and the town may need to negotiate with private property owners to

Commission Chairman John Morici will relate the reports findings to the Board of Selectmen at the boards regular meeting on Monday, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
