Eau Claire suspends enforcement of alternate side parking

The Director of Public Works in accordance with authority granted by the City code of ordinances has issued an order suspending the enforcement of alternate side calendar parking restrictions for the period beginning Thursday, March 22, 2012, through May 1, 2012.
Parking will now be permitted on both sides of the street until November 1, 2012, except in those locations where permanent or temporary parking restrictions are posted or marked.

The unprecedented record warm temperatures along with the long range forecast make it possible for the restrictions to be lifted at this time. The City has historically used the parking restrictions during the month of April to clean all the way to the curb line during night operations, which were conducted between midnight and 7:00 am, without the use of overtime. The amount of sand and debris left from the snow melt this year is substantially less than in previous years due to the reduced amount of sand used this winter.

The spring clean-up street sweeping is underway and the 86 miles of primary streets have all been swept at least once. Street sweeping in the residential areas is expected to begin the week of March 26th. Because alternate side parking restriction will not be enforced, residents should be alert for temporary parking restrictions that may be posted on the streets in their neighborhood. These temporary restrictions are intended to allow sweepers the ability to clean the roadway out to the curb line. Voluntary cooperation of residents to refrain from parking on streets until they have been swept at least once will help shorten the time necessary to sweep the community.
