Ediburgh City Council Website Shortlisted In New Statesman New Media Awards
The New Statesman, Britain's leading political magazine, has shortlisted three parts of the City of Edinburgh Council's website in this year's New Media Awards. Since 1999, these awards have promoted projects that embrace new technology, fresh thinking and creative management and make a difference specifically to public life. The key themes of this year's awards are innovation and efficiency.
The shortlisted sections of the website are:
mPark (pay for city centre parking with your mobile phone) - www.edinburgh.gov.uk/mpark
Key to Choice (find a Council house) - www.edinburgh.gov.uk/keytochoice
Planning portal (find and track planning applications) - www.edinburgh.gov.uk/planning
All the shortlisted website components have been developed as part of the Council's Smart City vision and is being delivered in partnership with BT, led by their consulting arm BT Syntegra - BT's expert in business transformation and change management. Smart City is about changing the way the Council organises and delivers its services to be efficient, effective and customer focussed, using information and communications technology.
Peter Wilby, Editor, New Statesman said: "We hear a great deal about how the Internet and such like will improve our lives. These awards aims to look at how far the digital revolution has really brought us."
Cllr Donald Wilson, Executive Member, Modernising Government, the City of Edinburgh Council said:
"I am delighted that the Council website has once again been recognised. The ability to pay for parking by mobile phone, search past and current planning applications online as well as look for a Council house have proved extremely popular since they were launched and are now recording high levels of usage each week. It is our intention to build on this success and provide more of our services online."
