Find a parking spotonline

If you're the type who celebrates after finding a great parking spot, you may jump for joy over a new Web site that makes garages easier to locate.
The Parking Industry Labor Management Council, which represents garage owners, recently launched www.chicagoparkingmap.com, which contains a map of 188 garages with about 25,000 parking spots, according to council chairman Michael Prussian.

The site, which covers about 90 percent of Chicago's garages, allows users to type in an address or select from a list of hundreds of locations and view a city map with the nearest parking garages.

Clicking on a garage prompts a pop-up box that reveals the locations of entrances, hours of operation, payment methods available and the total number of spaces.

It doesn't list the cost of parking or whether the garage is full, but there are phone numbers and, in some cases, Web sites for the garages.

There also is an option to receive directions from your location to the parking garage you've selected.

The site covers parking garages as far south as Cermak Road, as far north as Division Street, as far west as Halsted Street and as far east as Lake Michigan.

"If you're going to City Hall or the Art Institute, you can see everything," Prussian said. "It makes it real simple for the consumer to find out where they need to go."
