SpotHero and FlashParking Launch Bluetooth Parking in Austin

SpotHero, North America’s leading parking reservation platform, and FlashParking, an innovative parking technology company, today announced a pilot program to enable drivers in Austin, TX who purchase parking with SpotHero to enter garages equipped with FlashParking's FlashPARCS Smart Stations using the SpotHero app—a process the companies have coined “one-tap redemption.” With this technology, there’s no longer a need for drivers to roll down their car windows to redeem their parking reservation before entering parking garages.

The capability works using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology—a directional, low-voltage Bluetooth signal that remains in sleep mode until a connection is made between the mobile device and FlashParking’s FlashPARCS Smart Station. With FlashBeacon, FlashParking’s patent-pending BLE technology, they hope to broaden the impact of this technology by enabling SpotHero drivers to enter garages without needing to open their windows.

The program, which begins on October 22, will include 14 parking locations and will be offered to the majority of SpotHero users, with the intention of expanding the offering after the pilot’s success.
