Green Parking Council Demonstrator Site Canopy Airport Parking Wins Sustainability Award

Phoenix, Arizona - The Green Parking Council (GPC) announced today that one of its Demonstrator Sites, Canopy Airport Parking, has received the International Parking Institute Awards of Excellence designation in the category for sustainable parking and transportation (design) excellence.

“We are excited that one of our Demonstrator Sites was recognized once again by the parking industry as a whole,” said Paul Wessel, executive director of the GPC. “Canopy Airport Parking reflects the ideals and sensibilities of the Green Parking Council, its partners and its Demonstrator Sites.”

Propark America, a Platinum Launch Partner of the GPC, conceptualized, developed and operates the parking facility, which services Denver International Airport. Construction was completed by dcb Construction Company, Inc., a locally owned and operated Colorado builder. Canopy Airport Parking is LEED Certified Gold and one of North America’s first Demonstrator Sites of the Green Parking Council.

“As the GPC begins to roll out its Certified Green Garage rating system, it is still important to note that our Demonstrator Sites contribute real, tangible value toward a sustainable parking model,” continued Wessel. “Canopy Airport Parking continues to exemplify that fact.”

Canopy Airport Parking, which opened in November of 2010, features geothermal heating and cooling, a wind turbine farm, solar panel fields and other advanced technologies, allowing Canopy to run on 75% less energy than comparable facilities.
