High Tech Control Of Car Parking
High tech number plate reading is to be introduced at the University of Essex to control parking demand.
To improve facilities, charges are set to increase and a current flat fee for students and staff is to be cancelled.
A working group looking at the problem of overcrowding decided to revamp the system and introduce a daily charge.
The university is considering a system to read number plates and charge drivers according to their use of car parks on the campus.
The University says it is keen to establish alternatives to car travel for all users of the campus.
Also the new charges should help the university invest in transport for the future.
