IKEA put it together with DUNDEC

Dundec have carried out the waterproofing of the new car park roof deck and the coating of the Intermediate decks for IKEA at Birstall Leeds.
The original twin level car park to this high profile store was built approximately 5 years ago and no waterproofing was incorporated on the roof of the car park in order to protect the structure.

As a consequence, water was permeating both into the concrete of the car park and then onto the vehicles below.

A further deck has been added to provide extra parking and this time IKEA used Management Contractor RG Group to research the marketplace and find an appropriate long-term, high quality solution to this waterproofing problem. They recommended the Conideck material installed by Dundec Contracts Limited.

A very elegant and sophisticated combination of light and dark grey was used to define the running aisles and parking bays and the resultant appearance significantly enhances the whole appearance of this IKEA store. The high quality appearance is well received both by the parking public and the store management, as it provides a positive front door to the shopping experience in the store.

Given the success of this phase of works, Dundec were also instructed to undertake the coating of the lower decks of the car park. These are extremely rugged and heavily tamped and the requirement was to create a similar elegant appearance to that seen on the roof.

Dundec worked with their supplier Degussa to identify a suitable regulating screed material, which can be laid over the prepared concrete surface to create a much improved base to receive the high quality, and skid-resistant coatings, which have been installed over the entire surface of the lower decks.

Now completed, the appearance of the IKEA car park at Leeds is of a high quality environment, which compliments the stores growing image.
