LPR Technology for Vehicle Access Control in IKEA (Madrid)

The growth of the swedish multinational Ikea, dedicated to the manufacture and sale of furniture and house articles, has required the implementation of an effective access control system for its restricted loading and unloading areas as well as workers’ vehicles.

Our SIRAM automatic license plate recognition technology becomes an efficient solution for access control management as well as to guarantee maximum security. Therefore, Ikea Madrid Store has relied on SIRAM its access control management with the objective of automating the access of authorized vehicles in restricted areas and loading and unloading.

Operation

The ALPR implementation at Ikea Madrid has required a customized integration of the SIRAM access control technology with the current Ikea security system. Taking in consideration the specific features in the store restricted areas, the control of authorized vehicles and the integration with Ikea´s existing access control regarding security, from Innova Systems Group we have designed a solution that combines our ALR Siram Desico technology and the SIRAM Bullet Nest capture units.

This installation becomes a success story due to the high reliability of the our LPR integration as SIRAM has to work integrated to the existing access control system to be able to work like any card reader which also allows vehicles identification through its license plate.

High security automated access

SIRAM technology is linked to the operation process of the commercial zone, being a tool that adds efficiency and security to the employees and visits vehicles access control management, as well as to the areas of loading and unloading of trucks. These are the features that SIRAM provides:

  • Automatic identification of all vehicles trying to access IKEA´s store.
  • Registration and recording of recognized license plate and the captured image.
  • The barrier opening carried out by the access control electronics or by Siram Conex.

Hardware used

IKEA´s facilities at Madrid store require discrete capture units that can be integrated into the access barrier and provide an efficient registration plate reading. In order to give an efficient answer, the ALPR SIRAM Bullet Nest capture unit has been chosen due to its easy integration in lane barriers.

For the detection of the vehicle and OCR shooting, the control electronics SIRAM Conex IP02 has been used to allow receiving orders from the access control system to perform the opening of the barriers, and thus fulfill the functional requirements at IKEA.

Used Software

SIRAM OCR is an advanced technology that allows the automatic recognition of license plates in an efficient and unambiguous way through the installation of capture units or LPR cameras.
