Islington Parking Projects wins Outstanding Achievement Award

Islington Parking Projects, a partnership between Islington Council and Mouchel Parkman, has won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Parking Awards 2007.
Parking Projects and Islington Parking Services were presented with the prestigious award, which recognises achievements spanning all of the categories at the Awards event.

The judges noted that Parking Projects set exceptionally high standards in the quality of public consultation and project management. This included the creation of match-day parking controls around Arsenal Football Clubs Emirates stadium and the roll out of controlled parking zones across the borough.

The career development offered by both Islington Council and Mouchel Parkman was also highlighted, and it was noted that two parking professionals at Islington and one at Mouchel Parkman were short listed for individual awards more than any other organisation.

This year the British Parking Awards attracted a record number of entries representing more than 100 public and private-sector parking organisations. The awards were presented on Friday 9 March at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Mark Bland, divisional director for Parking Projects, said: This is great recognition of all the hard work put in by the team since the partnership began in January 2003. Our track record on the roll out of CPZs and match-day parking around the Emirates Stadium is unparalleled in the UK and Islington residents tell us that it has improved their environment.

Cllr Lucy Watt, Islington Councils Executive Member for the Environment, said: Islington Parking Projects has managed to successfully implement a number of major projects, whilst also prioritising the needs of residents. This award is due recognition of its hard work and achievement.

Parking Projects led the introduction of a detailed parking plan to prioritise parking for local residents and to reduce visits by car to Arsenals new Emirates Stadium last year. A 1.2m investment was made into extra match-day parking controls to safeguard residents parking and prevent match-day congestion.

The award is the latest that the successful partnership has received. In 2006, Islington Council, in partnership with Mouchel Parkman, was named 'Transport Borough of the Year' at the London Transport Awards.
