Johnston Contractors received contract for Bloomington Arena Parking.
The city will pay Johnston Contractors just over $3 million to build a parking deck for the downtown arena, the City Council decided Monday.
In addition, the council approved buying 20 more stun guns for the police department.
In August, the council approved a $30,198,475 guaranteed maximum price for Johnston Contractors Inc. to build the 7,000-seat arena. That price did not include the parking garage, for which the city will pay $3,060,978.
City Manager Tom Hamilton said the arena still will cost an estimated $37 million. In addition to Johnstons' $33 million construction price tag, the city will spend another $4 million on furnishings, utilities, insurance and other infrastructure.
The council voted unanimously on the parking deck change during its meeting Monday night. Three aldermen were absent.
