Lemminkäinen to build Tapiola Square parking facility
Lemminkäinen has won the construction contract for a parking facility in Tapiola Square, Espoo, Finland.
Commissioned by Tapiolan keskuspysäköinti Oy, the facility will be built below the current parking area, in front of the Tapiola Garden Hotel. The work is planned to begin in June 2011; Lemminkäinen's contract will be completed in the autumn of 2012. In total, the contract amounts to some EUR 14 million.
"In this project, Lemminkäinen can use its core and special know-how within both infrastructure construction and building construction", states Jouko Viitala, Director, Lemminkäinen Infra Oy.
The contract includes civil engineering, demanding foundation engineering, excavation and pre-stressing work. This 12,000 m2 parking facility will contain one level and 336 parking spaces. The contract also involves the reconstruction of the current parking area above the new underground facility.
Lemminkäinen has been constructing underground parking and air-raid shelters since the 1970s. It is currently building the P-Hämppi parking facility in the centre of Tampere and the Töölönlahti parking facility and air-raid shelter in Helsinki. In addition to these underground facilities, Lemminkäinen recently initiated the construction of a two-level parking hall with 720 parking spaces in Hämeenlinna.
