Linear/OSCO Joins Invisa OEM Parking Gate Safety Program

Invisa Inc. announced that Operator Specialty Company, Inc. (Linear/OSCO) of Casnovia, Michigan, a subsidiary of Linear, LLC, has joined Invisa's OEM Program for parking gate manufacturers.
OSCO is one of the nation's foremost manufacturers of commercial and residential gate and door operating systems, providing quality automatic openers for the fencing, parking and access control industries.

Linear/OSCO's barrier gate product line, including models BGU, BGU-D, BGUS, and SG security gates, with 10' to 25' arm lengths, can now be ordered with Invisa's SmartGate(R) system pre-installed at the factory. This technology will enhance safety in the event that a pedestrian, child, or bicyclist enters the gate area and provides a sound risk management tool for dealers and owner/operators. Linear/OSCO has consistently advised their dealer network and customers on the potential risks and hazards associated with parking gates and urge gate owners to make a thorough risk assessment of current and planned installations. It is important to note; automatic barrier gates are intended for car and truck vehicular traffic only. Pedestrians, especially children, should never be allowed in the vicinity of a motorized gate. Pedestrians must be provided with a separate means of egress designed to promote pedestrian traffic away from any moving part of the gate. In situations where pedestrians could never-the-less be at risk, electronic non-contact safety equipment is essential.
Invisa's line of SmartGate safety equipment is the only electronic non-contact safety system designed to provide an invisible field that moves with and precedes the gate arm. If the gate arm is coming down on a pedestrian, bicycle, motorcycle, car or other vehicle, the gate arm is signaled to stop and reverse before any contact has been made to avoid injury and damage.

Steve Michael, Invisa's acting President, stated, "We appreciate our long-term relationship with OSCO. We believe OSCO's new product offerings will be particularly attractive in environments that can be high risk for parking gates such as employee and customer parking lots, gated subdivisions, condominiums and apartments, municipal buildings and parking facilities, entertainment venues, airports, hotels and pay-parking facilities.

"When an industry leader such as OSCO adds important safety equipment to its parking gate offerings, the parking gate industry will notice. SmartGate electronic non-contact safety equipment represents a quantum leap in safety and we believe that the time may be right for the parking gate industry to adopt a new safety standard that recognizes the importance of non-contact safety equipment."

About Invisa

Invisa presence-sensing solutions serve the electronic life safety and security markets. Invisa's proprietary InvisaShield technology is based upon capacitive sensing and is resistant to known methods of circumvention without employing infrared, laser, ultrasound or microwave radiation. InvisaShield can detect intruders who violate a sensing zone ranging from millimeters up to 1 meter. Invisa's SmartGate(R) safety system generates an invisible protective field that moves with and precedes the potentially hazardous leading edge of powered gates, garage doors, sliding doors and other powered closures. For information about SmartGate(R) products or the patented InvisaShield(R) Technology, visit http://www.invisa.com or call 941-355-9361. linearosco.jpgLinear/OSCO is an international manufacturer of commercial and residential gate and door operating systems. Located in Casnovia, Michigan, OSCO was founded in 1975 to satisfy the need for quality special application operators in the fencing, parking, ornamental iron, and commercial door industries. Linear/OSCO's product line has grown to include a full line of swing and slide gate operators, parking barrier gates, and commercial door operators and accessories. Linear LLC acquired OSCO in December of 2003.

Randy Baker, Linear/OSCO Product Marketing Manager, stated that, "Parking gates without electronic non-contact safety equipment represent a significant potential risk. Risk and exposure for operators and dealers is particularly high in environments with heavy pedestrian traffic, especially where there are children or bicyclists. Offering integrated SmartGate units into our barrier gate products raises the bar on safety standards in the parking gate environment."
