Mitsubishi Heavy installs EV chargers in vertical parking lot

The company renovated an existing vertical parking lot on behalf of the Yokohama Motomachi Shopping Street Association, which will pay the electricity bill for the electric cars and plug-in hybrids that recharge their batteries while parked in the lot. Two hours of charging there will provide enough juice for a car to travel some 20-40km.

Mitsubishi Heavy estimated the construction cost for a vertical parking lot with a built-in recharging system at 1 million yen per space. The company hopes to win similar contracts for other vertical parking lots.

The popularization of next-generation eco-cars will be helped by the availability of recharging stations in accessible, everyday places, according to the firm.
