MobileNOW! Launches Mobile Payments in San Diego Community College District; Establishes Foundation for Virtual Permits

MobileNOW! announced the successful launch of mobile payments for parking throughout the entire San Diego Community College District (SDCCD). The rollout is key for SDCCD’s long range parking technology roadmap.

Among the largest community college districts in the United States, SDCCD serves more than 130,000 students annually and consists of four main campuses and more than 6,000 parking spaces. Prior to MobileNOW!, the campuses used primarily cash only permit dispensers for daily parking permits.

“We are ecstatic to apply the latest payment technologies to parking at SDCCD. We believe the convenience of managing parking sessions remotely through the mobile app is exactly what the students and visitors want,” said Debra Picou, SDCCD Parking Supervisor.

Two strategic factors in SDCCD’s decision were to adopt convenient credit card payments while maintaining superior data security coupled with eliminating unnecessary capital expenditures and costly equipment maintenance.

Picou added, “We are now able to accept credit card payments without any upfront costs. Because MobileNOW! captures license plate information, we are in a better position to easily implement a virtual permit program in the future.”
