New App to Find Parking near Amway Center

When the state-of-the-art Amway Center opens, drivers will have a new, faster way to commute through Downtown Orlando.
The Downtown Development Board has released a free parking application for smartphones called Orlando parkIN'. The application is available on all smart-phone platforms, such as the iPhone and Android.

Orlando parkIN' allows visitors to Downtown Orlando to search parking lots and garages -- all within a ten minute walk of the Amway Center.

According to the city of Orlando press release, the app will locate and provide visitors a convenient route to downtown parking locations with real-time traffic updates. For those visiting from out of the area, the app also features detailed information with hours of operation, number of spaces, parking price and images of the parking location. Locations are determined using your phone location and Google Maps.

"The city is creating a pedestrian-friendly culture around the new amway center in hopes of driving visitors to the many restaurants or shops downtown," Mayor Buddy Dyer said.

Downtown Development Board officials say the app is part of a new transportation system currently in development. City officials have installed a new system which features electronic and "way finder" signs to direct drivers to available parking locations downtown.

The Amway Center will open Friday with the State of Downtown address from Mayor Dyer and a ribbon cutting event from Orlando Magic President Alex Martins, city commissioners and leaders.

The Orlando parkIN' application can be downloaded on the iPhone, Android Market and from Downtown Orlando's website.
