New Brunswick Development Corporation Breaks Ground on Gateway Transit Village Project

On June 10, 2009, the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO) celebrated the much anticipated project with a ground breaking ceremony at the construction site.
A towering mixed-use transit village will become a destination for commuters, residents, and members of the Rutgers University community.

With the assistance of Governor Jon Corzine, Mayor Jim Cahill, Rutgers President Richard McCormick, and various other high-ranking state officials, the first shovels of dirt were tossed to commemorate another step in the revitalization of New Brunswick, NJ. The pedestrian promenade linking the downtown train station with College Avenue will feature outdoor café tables, new retail stores, and a prominent Barnes & Noble Superstore with the Rutgers University Bookstore. Conveniently located adjacent to the Northeast Corridor rail line and directly across the street from Rutgers University, the destination place will also include a new 600+ space parking structure and Class A office space.

TimHaahs is providing parking planning and design for the parking structure component, which is integrated with the other planned uses. This effort will assist in the City of New Brunswicks ongoing efforts to revitalize the downtown core.
