New cell phone parking lot opens at LAX
A new temporary parking lot opened Friday for motorists waiting for a phone call to pick up their loved ones from Los Angeles International Airport.
The so-called Cell Phone Waiting Lot, located at the intersection of 96th Street and Vicksburg Avenue, is equipped with 25 parking spaces with room for growth, said airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles.
Drivers using the new lot must remain with their vehicles and wait until arriving travelers call them on their cell phones. Once they get the signal, motorists can then pick up passengers waiting by airport terminals.
Airport officials said the new waiting lot is more conveniently located than the old lot, which opened in 2004.
