New credit and debit card parking machines must be Chip and PIN equipped - it's official

As CreditCall announced at last week's Parkex exhibition and industry conference, any new installations of credit and debit card equipped parking machines must be able to process an EMV transaction.
This means the terminal, both Pay-and-Display and Pay-on Foot types, must be equipped with Chip and PIN.

As one of the UK’s main providers of credit card payment service providers for the parking industry, CreditCall are pleased to inform about recent changes to European banking regulations which could affect operators when ordering new Pay-and Display or Pay-on-Foot parking machines in future.
creditcall.jpgWe are drawing all Parking Operators' attention to the fact that following the introduction of the Chip and PIN (EMV) standard in the UK, Visa have declared that all new unattended terminals (UATs) accepting Visa cards in Europe, will be required to be capable of performing a full EMV level 2 (Chip and PIN) transaction. Any new terminals which are not chip and PIN capable will not be accepted by Visa, and Operators will be unable to obtain merchant facilities to process Visa branded cards. Please note that this directive does not prevent the acceptance of other branded cards such as MasterCard, American Express, Diners, JCB, etc.

Operators are urged to ensure that when ordering any new card-capable machines, it is specified to the manufacturer that they are equipped to handle Chip and PIN transactions. The manufacturer will be able to provide details of lead times and prices for the new generation machines.
