New office for Queensland's second biggest car park operator, UQ Traffic and Parking

Staff at Queensland's second biggest car park operator, UQ Traffic and Parking, have been consolidated into a new office at St Lucia. Eighteen administrative, enforcement and maintenance staff, previously in separate areas, have been brought together into one office at the ground level of UQ's Multi-Level Carpark 2, bordering Sir Fred Schonell Drive.
UQ Traffic and Parking Manager Anthony Fletcher said the new office was bigger than their temporary home and more convenient for students and staff.
“The main advantage is the convenience. We're right in the middle of where two thirds of parking on campus is located,” Mr Fletcher said. All parking and traffic inquiries can be made at the office (Building 98B) from 8.30am to 4.45pm.

In other parking news, Mr Fletcher said UQ Ipswich would have a new bitumen car park next year with 270 spaces.
He said there were plans to surface the St Lucia ‘dustbowl' carpark opposite the multi-level facilities and add more lighting and pedestrian paths.

Electronic surveys are also planned to learn more about the travel patterns of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

“That will give us some very interesting information that we haven't really had available to us before.”

UQ Traffic and Parking manages 5500 car parks at St Lucia alone, making it the second biggest parking provider in Queensland after Brisbane City Council, and Brisbane Airport Corporation in third.

Mr Fletcher said his office, which received no funding from the UQ, ploughed all its revenue from parking fines and fees back into parking.

The official opening of the UQ Traffic and Parking Office is planned for Tuesday, December 6.
