Park Plymouth announced today that it is installing 13 Pay-By-Space paystations in downtown and waterfront parking lots. Preparation for installing the paystations began in January and the meters will be up and running in time for the April 1 start date of the 2012 paid parking season.
The goals of installing the new paystations are to improve customer service by providing the public with equipment which is easy to use, has more payment options , and increases the convenience of paying for parking.
During the paid parking season, paid parking will be in effect from 9:00 to 7:00 PM including Sundays and holidays as in the past. The parking rate will be $.50/hr during the beginning and end of the paid parking season, and the rate will be $1.00/hr from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day in waterfront lots and in the Memorial Hall lot.
The new paystations will accept US coins and bills plus MasterCard or Visa credit and debit cards.
The receipt printed by the machines shows the number of the space where you parked along with other information, and you take the receipt with you instead of placing it on the dashboard of your vehicle. You may use the receipt at ANY other paystation in town to purchase additional time for the space where you parked.
“Perhaps one of the nicest features of our new equipment is that customers will be able to pre-pay for parking time in advance of 9:00 AM and not have the time start counting until 9:00 AM. Whale watching customers and people taking the ferry to Provincetown should be especially pleased, since most of those trips leave before parking hours are in effect,” said Leighton Price, President of Plymouth Growth & Development Corporation, the organization responsible for overseeing parking in Plymouth.
When Park Plymouth introduces the new paystations, staff will spend time visiting lots to make sure that customers understand how to use the equipment.
