New Portsmouth downtown parking lot will take credit cards only

The city's newest downtown parking lot will open July 1 but the 200-spot facility located between Deer and Hanover Streets will be a credit card-only facility.
Entrance to the 24-hour lot will be from Portwalk Place, a one-way street accessible from Deer Street, and will be controlled by gate arms similar to those found in parking garages. At the entrance, drivers will retrieve a ticket from a gate column at the entrance to the lot. Upon exiting, customers insert their parking lot ticket into the exit column, then use a credit card for payment. By restricting the payment method to credit cards only, the facility does not need to be staffed.

The parking rate will be 75 cents per hour, as it is at the on-street meters and inside the High-Hanover Garage. There are no time restrictions on duration of stay at the new Deer-Hanover Parking Facility. The new lot brings the number of designated parking spaces in Portsmouth to 2,460.
