OmPay soon to extend the Smart-Card Payment Network

OmPay is also currently working to allow customers to use our convenient payment device to pay for garage parking fees, and fares on taxis and on public transportation systems.

By expanding the scope of the OmPay network, we are extending our vision of a universal transportation payment method that provides added convenience to customers and partners on a daily basis.

The Smart Way to Pay for Parking

To pay for parking with your Smart Card, simply insert it into the slot on the parking meter. The meter will read the tiny microchip embedded in your card and show you how much money is left on your Smart Card.

Your card will automatically begin adding time to the meter in 25c increments, deducting that amount of money from the remaining value on your card. When you reach the desired amount of time on the meter, remove your card from the slot.

Established in 2001, OmPay, LLC, is a company with business solution expertise currently focusing on cashless payment in the on-street parking arena. The company was formed by Drexel University alumni James Kohler and Nitin Khanna.

Business Direction

While OmPay’s original direction initially placed them in the wireless communication and networking arena, they continued to research the options and opportunities that were available, and became determined to find something bigger. The team investigated cashless payment solutions, and gradually became experts in on-street parking.

After meeting with the Philadelphia Parking Authority and presenting a plan of action, it became clear that there was synergy between the two entities. After nearly a year of preparation, OmPay successfully launched the Smart Card program - the Philadelphia Parking Authority’s cashless payment system - in October 2003. Currently working with the Philadelphia Parking Authority, OmPay is credited with building the nation’s most convenient, reliable and simple on-street parking transaction process.

While on-street parking is the focus of current initiatives, the Smart Card program will progress beyond just the parking meter. OmPay is currently working to allow customers to use this convenient payment device for garages and taxis and on public transportation systems. By expanding the scope of the program, we are extending our vision and providing added convenience for everyone on a daily basis.
