OTC to hire Springfield architectural firm to design parking lot at Tindle Mills site

Ozarks Technical Community College will hire a Springfield architectural firm to design a 400-space parking lot at the Tindle Mills property.
The OTC Board of Trustees on Monday approved a $17,200 contract with Bates & Associates for architectural services.

The project cost is estimated at $300,000.

OTC is in negotiations with Drury University to purchase the Tindle Mills site for $1.6 million.

Responsible for clearing the pad, Drury has hired Gator Industrial of Joplin to demolish the structures on the site, including its silos.

The work is expected to be completed by mid-summer, Drury spokesman Mark Miller said.

Drury acquired the mill property in 2005, when mill owner ADM Alliance Nutrition Inc. donated it to the school.

OTC became interested in the property as its need grew for more parking.

OTC wants to build a parking garage at the Tindle site eventually but is settling for a parking lot for now because of budget constraints.

To help with construction of the parking lot and an additional lot northeast of the campus, OTC has approved a new parking fee for students at the Springfield campus.

The new fee -- $45 per student per semester -- goes into effect this fall.

A $25 parking fee for summer students takes effect in June 2011.
