Calderdale Council installs extra 100 Parkeon Pay & Display terminals

Calderdale Council in West Yorkshire has installed an additonal 100 Parkeon Stelio Pay & Display (P&D) parking terminals to extend its on-street parking scheme in the centre of the town of Halifax.
All the machines are equipped with card readers that enable them to handle the Citys pre-paid parking cards, as well as coin payments, and all - bar one - are solar-powered.

Despite initial public scepticism about the wisdom of using this environmentally friendly power supply in the North of England, the solar option has proved well up to the task, notes Debbie Calcott, the Councils Parking Manager. The civil works required to install the machines and the costs of maintaining them are minimal. Theyre easy to move, too, if were refurbishing a car park or theres development work taking place, for example. Parkeon ensures that routine battery changes are minimised by using high efficient solar panels and optimising the power requirements of all components in its terminals.

Calderdales pre-paid parking card is based on Parkeons Chip One card and was introduced as a more convenient alternative to parking vouchers during 2001. The disposable cards are sold in denominations of 10 and 20 at the public counters in Council buildings and in district cash offices. They are particularly popular with residents as the cards save them having to find the right change to pay for short term parking. Parking permits are available for those requiring long term parking on a regular basis.

Parkeon has supplied Calderdale Council with P&D terminals for nearly 10 years. The Company was awarded the latest contract following open competitive tendering and the new additions take the total number of Parkeon machines installed by the Council on and off-street - to over 200.

Were still operating the DG-Series terminals that we first bought from Parkeon but the Council was then won over by the design of the Stelio when it was introduced. Its a lovely looking machine, adds Debbie Calcott.
