Parkeon and CreditCall Partner to Provide First U.S. Online Pay-and-Display Parking Terminals

Moorestown NJ Parkeon, the global leader in parking systems and equipment and CreditCall Communications Ltd., the specialist cashless payment solutions provider, today announced the signing of an agreement to provide the first U.S. online pay-and-display parking system with credit card functionality.
The system will reduce the risk of payment fraud for American municipalities and parking operators by providing online, real-time verification of all credit card transactions at Parkeon terminals. Consumers will find the system both easy to use and efficient.
Every year, American municipalities lose between two and four percent of their parking revenue to fraud. This fraud can take the form of vandals breaking into conventional coin-operated parking meters, or the use of a stolen/lost credit card. The new Parkeon/CreditCall system will eliminate this loss with its real-time credit card authorization, and its ability to set transaction limits “by terminal” or “by card” to prevent multiple, fraudulent use of a credit card.

“Our joint system will provide a great business value to municipalities and parking operators in the U.S. by reducing the amount of revenue lost to fraud,” said Nick McGarvey, CreditCall Managing Director. “Our experience with online payment shows that this is a welcome technology - within just 14 days of installation, some cities have seen 70 percent of parking transactions being made by credit card. Consumers recognize that online credit card transactions are completed more quickly than the time it takes to insert coins and/or bills into a machine.”

Now, consumers will be able to easily select a parking fee, and then swipe a credit card for payment. Card details and the ticket value are then sent in real-time to CreditCall using radio data transmission. CreditCall logs the transaction information and requests an authorization for the card from one of the acquiring banks. Once the transaction is authorized, a “proceed” command is sent to the machine via the radio data network. The Parkeon terminal then prints the ticket and a full receipt, which consumers can verify the transaction against a credit card statement.

“The parking industry needs proven, reliable, standardized products that can be adapted and tailored cost-effectively to meet the needs of municipalities. The Parkeon/CreditCall system is the first product offering these elements,” said Ken Greenwood, Parkeon North America. “From Parkeon’s perspective, this system is a key enabler of better urban mobility and furthers our commitment to creating a more harmonious urban environment for American consumers and local officials.”

CreditCall became the first company in Europe to provide secure credit card payment on a pay-and-display parking terminal. The United Kingdom, CreditCall’s base of operation, has long promoted the use of online credit card payment. British municipalities never used offline pay-and-display terminals, instead preferring a method that would increase municipal parking revenues by preventing fraud, something offline terminals cannot guarantee.
